Office 365 Home vs Personal: Microsoft shows you which option is best for you video

While both of these subscription tiers give you similar access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, and Access, there are some subtle differences for what you can get for your money. In this guide, we dive a bit deeper and will help you choose the subscription plan that is right for your home. Your choice of the options should ideally be dependent upon the exact number of users and the usage pattern you may have.

While it can feel like a bitter pill to swallow, most people will be better off paying a premium for the ease and convenience of Microsoft 365. The ability to pay one price and have the entire Microsoft Office suite no matter where you are and what you’re doing feels essential, especially if you use the included apps across multiple devices. However, the company has an option for people who may balk at the prospect of paying a monthly or annual fee for something they’re used to buying outright. With this subscription, six different people can use PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Publisher, and Skype across multiple devices. In technical terms, this means you can link up to six Microsoft accounts with a single Office 365 Home subscription.

And if you’re looking for web connectivity, consider Google’s web app suite which gets you Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides for free. Unlike previous versions, Office 2021 is only supported on Windows 11, 10, or the three most recent versions of macOS. If you must install Office on Windows 8.1, you must use a Microsoft 365 subscription.

You also get sixty Skype world minutes of calling per month to over sixty countries. These Office apps can be installed on up to five PCs or Macs, and five tablets. Priced at $99.99 a year, or $9.99 a month, Office 365 Home is a subscription that we'd recommend for families.

The standalone version of Office (also referred to as the "on-premises" or "perpetual" version) allows you to install and update the apps on one device. In other words, it's possible to continue using the apps through their lifecycle and beyond . When the time comes to upgrade, you will have to purchase a new product license again. Also, if you opt for the Family subscription plan, you can share the account with up to five additional users for six people using the same plan in total. With Office 365 Personal you will get the same apps and features as with Office 365 Home. You can install the Office apps, just like with Office 365 Home, on an unlimited amount of devices.

The price of Office 365 Personal is $69.99 per year or $6.99 per month. Each OneDrive is personal, so by default, you can’t see the files or folders from the other members. Possible to give one family member 2Tb of storage and another only 500Gb. The price of Office 365 Home is $99.99 per year or $9.99 per month. The steps involved here should be easy and straightforward to go with. You just need to visit the official Office 365 site and change your plan.

Each person will be able to install Office on all their devices, with their own personal accounts, but only can stay signed in to five devices at the same time. For the price of $6.99 a month, or $69.99 a year, Office 365 Personal is the cheapest way to get Office on your devices. We'd recommend it if you're just buying a subscription for one person, with no plans to add users to your plan. However, Microsoft has recently made it possible to install office apps on multiple devices. This has practically made both Office 365 Home and Office 365 Personal almost similar except for the number of users that you can enroll.

Check out the salient features and choose the plan that exactly meets your needs. The Office 365 plan is a newer option and is entirely similar to the Office 365 Home with the only exception being it is available only for one user. Crucially, both Microsoft 365 and standard Office 2019 will get regular bug fixes and security updates, which patch holes in the software and keep it running smoothly. Microsoft continually maintains all of its software even after multiple revisions, so you won’t need to worry about Office 2019 going completely obsolete for some time. Windows 7 is no longer supported, so you will need to upgrade to Windows 11 or Windows 10 to install the apps.

Microsoft 365 is, for all intents and purposes, the default version of Microsoft Office. It offers the full suite of apps, including premium access to Microsoft’s non-Office productivity tools. Ultimately, the decision comes down to the apps and services you need to complete the work. If you plan to use Office for years to come, Microsoft 365 is hands-down your best option. The reason is that with the subscription, you will get full access to the apps and benefits at a low cost of ownership.

office 356 home vs personal

With regular updates, you’ll always have the latest Office applications and features. That was all we had concerning the differences between Office 365 Personal and Office 365 Home. As you may have already observed through the above discussion, the two plans come with almost identical features except for a few subtle differences. Along with the other Office 365 subscription plans already available, Microsoft recently announced a new program – Office 365 Personal. The plan was introduced in March 2019 and differed slightly from the existing Home plan.

When you choose one of the subscriptions, you should get the yearly plan to save money, plus you do not have to worry about payments throughout the year. Microsoft offers a few other advanced packages of Office 365 aimed at businesses which include Exchange, SharePoint, and Lync, but we won't go into that. In can imagine that this could work perfectly fine if you only want to share Office with your husband or wife. With the 5 active devices limitation, you could install it on two desktops and to mobile phones without any issues.

office 356 home vs personal

It costs $70 a year (or $7 per month) and gives you access to all the apps alongside 1TB of OneDrive storage. Second, Office 2019 is the “current” version of Office 2019, but it is static. Microsoft said it will add new features and improvements to Microsoft 365 apps over time, which users will get access to as part of their subscription. Although Microsoft 365 and Office Home and Student 2019 are both technically Microsoft Office app bundles, they have very different offerings.

Office 365 Personal or Home?

For home users, this option makes sense only if you do not mind the upfront cost and want a more traditional experience. It may also be a good choice if you plan to use the apps on one computer, don't need additional features, or are not ready for the Microsoft 365 subscription. The option is available for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family members.

office 356 home vs personal

There is also a free version of OneNote, which doesn’t come with Office 2019. If you’ve come to rely on any of the other apps, or think you’ll need them, you’ll have to fork out extra dough to get access. So, as we previously stated, Microsoft 365 is going to look better than Office 2019 on paper. There’s no tangible benefit to buying Office 2019, except that you only have to pay for it once.

Office Home & Student 2021 comes with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, while Office Home & Business 2021 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Office Professional 2021 comes with all the apps, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, and Access. Microsoft Office 2021 refers to the standalone version of the apps, which you can own forever after a one-time purchase. Office 2021 might be better if you only need Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. You have to pay again to upgrade and do not get additional features. Only if you are not intended to share the license with others, then the Office 365 Personal plan is a perfect option.

Palmyra Township, New York Place

Near the log cabin is a very large building– a “temple.” The place was totally devoid of any people. The cabin was obviously decorated to imitate a typical family dwelling in the early 1800s. The Smith log home in Palmyra, NY is a Church Historical Site, owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is open seven days a week and may be entered when accompanied by missionary hosts during posted hours. Shortly after Joseph’s experience, tragedy struck the Smith family with the death of Joseph’s elder brother Alvin.

Three days later, a raiding party massacres church members, including children, at Haun's Mill, The Mormon community leaves Missouri for Illinois. Non-Mormons fear that the Mormons, who have formed a militia, will take their land. And although Smith's church officially supports slavery, other Missourians also oppose some Mormons' abolitionist sentiments.

The Bible Or The Book Of Mormon?

After Smith’s death, Mormon leaders incorporated polygamy as a Mormon doctrine until 1890, when it was repealed under pressure by the U.S. Smith later claimed that an angel named Moroni appeared to him in 1823, had him transcribe and then bury some golden plates and start up a new church, the Mormon Church, named after the Book of Mormon. The Ensign Peak Foundation is an independent 501 organization whose mission is to identify, preserve, and commemorate sites, events, and people of significance in Latter-day Saint history throughout the world. The kitchen of the Smith home was the scene of one of the most disappointing events in the life of the Prophet Joseph Smith. In the summer of 1828, against the Lord’s clear counsel, Joseph allowed his scribe, Martin Harris, to take 116 pages of handwritten translation of the Book of Mormon plates to show to his wife in Palmyra, New York.

The economic order, like those of many communistic societies of the era, requires church members to give their property to the church for redistribution. Shortly after the Erie Canal opens in 1825, upstate New York is still a sparsely populated, rugged frontier. The area will later be called the "Burned-Over District" -- burned over by endless religious revivals during this era of spiritual seeking.

Compare the Book of Mormon with the Bible:

Illinois authorities revoke Nauvoo's city charter and ask the Mormon community to leave. In February 1845, emerging church head Brigham Young leads thousands of Saints out of Illinois, heading west to Mexican territory. On October 27, 1838, Missouri governor Lilburn Boggs takes a dramatic stand to end violence. His executive order calls for the expulsion or extermination of all Mormons from the state.

No mention of people, nations, or places peculiar to the Book of Mormon have ever been found.

Religious background

The Smith family built the original 1½-story hewn-log home not long after they arrived in Palmyra. During the time that the Prophet Joseph Smith lived in the family log home in Palmyra, New York, events transpired that greatly influenced the young boy and prepared the way for the restoration of the gospel. Remembrances from the Smith family reveal their concerns and activities while living in the log home.

A number of family members fell ill, and Joseph experienced a common complication whereby typhoid bacteria infected bone, in Smith's case, the shin bone. After the typically horrific early nineteenth-century surgery without either anesthetic or antiseptic, Smith eventually recovered, though he used crutches for several years and had a slight limp for the remainder of his life. The painting of Joseph Smith bringing home the gold plates from the Hill Cumorah portrays the involvement of his family, West said.

Move to Harmony Township, Pennsylvania

Significantly, the Smith family lived in this log home during the time of the First Vision and visits from the angel Moroni informing Joseph, Jr., regarding the coming forth of the Book of Mormon on the night of September 21-22, 1823. Not long after the Smiths moved into the log home, situated a few hundred feet to the north, they contracted to purchase an additional 100 acres adjoining their 80 acre farm. Alvin determined to build a home where his parents could enjoy their family in their later years and to repay them for all of their love, toil, and sacrifice in behalf of their children. Sadly, before Alvin could finish this more spacious frame home, he died on November 19, 1823, while the Smiths still resided in the log home. He passed away just a few months after Moroni had appeared to his younger brother. The Mormons toil on the large stone building from 1833 until 1836, dedicating one day out of seven to its construction.

Therefore, Smith sent his mother to the home of Martin Harris, a local landowner said at the time to be worth about $8,000 to $10,000. Over the next few days, Smith took a well-digging job in nearby Macedon to obtain money to buy a solid lockable chest in which he said he would put the plates. By then, however, some of Smith's treasure-seeking company had heard that Smith was successful in obtaining the plates, and they wanted what they believed was their cut of the profits from what they saw as part of their joint venture. When Emma heard of this, she went to Macedon and informed Smith Jr., who reportedly determined through his Urim and Thummim that the plates were safe, but nevertheless he hurriedly traveled home by horseback. Once home in Palmyra, he then walked to Cumorah and said he removed the plates from their hiding place, and walked back home with the plates wrapped in a linen frock under his arm, suffering a dislocated thumb as he fended off attackers.

The Smith family lived here for less than five years, from 1825 to the spring of 1829. During that time the Prophet Joseph Smith continued to be tutored and prepared to receive the Book of Mormon plates. It was to this home that the Prophet brought the Book of Mormon plates after he received them on from the Hill Cumorah on September 22, 1827. Months after settling in Ohio, Joseph Smith declares that Independence Missouri was the site of the Garden of Eden and will become a "New Jerusalem." Missionaries there establish a printing press and publish the westernmost American newspaper,The Evening and Morning Star. Smith's revelations -- many printed in the paper -- stress that Mormons are entitled to their land and should secure it by force if necessary. The money provided by Harris was enough to pay all of Smith's debts in Palmyra, and for him to travel with Emma and all of their belongings to Harmony Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, where they would be able to avoid the public commotion in Palmyra over the plates.

It is unclear who, if anyone, Smith told about his vision prior to his reported discovery of the golden plates in 1823. According to Smith, he told his mother at the time that he had "learned for self that Presbyterianism is not true"; however, mention of this conversation is omitted from Lucy's own history, and Joseph never stated that he described the details of the vision to his family in 1820 or soon thereafter. He did say that he spoke about the vision with "one of the Methodist preachers, who was very active in the before-mentioned religious excitement". Many have presumed this to be the Rev. Lane, but there is no record of Lane visiting the Palmyra vicinity in 1820.

Early life of Joseph Smith

Joseph's brother William was apparently unaware of any visions until 1823, although he would have only been nine years old in 1820. Like perhaps thousands of contemporary Americans, the Smith family practiced various forms of folk magic such as using divining rods and seer stones to search for buried treasure. Four witnesses reported that the Smiths used divining rods in the Palmyra area, and sometime between Joseph Smith's eleventh and thirteenth years, he began "following his father's example in using a divining rod." Magical parchments handed down in the Hyrum Smith family may have belonged to Joseph Sr. In 1814 the Smiths moved back across the Connecticut River to Norwich, Vermont, where they suffered three seasons of crop failures, the last the result of the Year Without a Summer. The extended Smith clan had already moved west to New York, and in 1817, Joseph Smith Sr. traveled alone to Palmyra, New York, followed shortly by the rest of his family—although not before Lucy Smith was forced to settle with some last-minute creditors. The bullet missed him, hitting a cow instead, and the perpetrator was not found. In 1820, the family contracted to pay for a 100-acre farm just outside Palmyra in Manchester Township.

Thus, in early October 1827, they moved to Harmony, with the glass box reportedly holding the plates hidden during the trip in a barrel of beans. An 1841 engraving of "Mormon Hill" , where Smith said he found the golden plates on the west side, near the peak. After the messenger departed, Smith said he had two more encounters with him that night and an additional one the next morning, after which he told his father and soon thereafter the rest of his family, who believed his story, but generally kept it within the family. He said there was a book deposited, written upon gold plates, giving an account of the former inhabitants of this continent, and the source from whence they sprang. He also said that the fulness of the everlasting Gospel was contained in it, as delivered by the Savior to the ancient inhabitants; also that there were two stones in silver bows—and these stones, fastened to a breastplate, constituted what is called the Urim and Thummim—deposited with the plates". From about 1819, Smith regularly practiced scrying, a form of divination in which a "seer" looked into a seer stone to receive supernatural knowledge.

The exact details of the First Vision vary somewhat depending upon who is recounting the story and when. Smith's first account in 1832 dated the vision to 1821 and stated that he saw "a piller of fire light above the brightness of the sun at noon day", and that "the Lord opened the heavens upon me and I saw the Lord and he spake unto me saying Joseph my son thy sins are forgiven thee". Joseph Smith's ancestors had an eclectic variety of religious views and affiliations. For instance, Joseph Smith's paternal grandfather, Asael, was a Universalist who opposed evangelical religion. Joseph Smith had little formal schooling, but may have attended school briefly in Palmyra and received instruction in his home. Young Joseph worked on his family farm and perhaps took an occasional odd job or worked for nearby farmers.

American Experience

Joseph Smith (December 23, 1805 – June 27, 1844) was an American religious leader and the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement whose current followers include members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Community of Christ, and other Latter Day Saint denominations. The early life of Joseph Smith covers his life from his birth to the end of 1827. Malm, Christensen’s counterpart from Cache Valley, Utah, has been painting for about 27 years. He added that he hopes the paintings serve as a “springboard” for people to ponder on what happened at those sites. Four new paintings depicting early events of the Restoration have been on display at the Sacred Grove Welcome Center since March 2020. After a period of investigating a variety of Christian faiths, however, she had decided that they did not provide the kind of devotional depth and biblical concordance she was looking for.

Thus, at Lucy Smith's request, Harris went to the Smith home, heard the story from Smith, and hefted a glass box that Smith said contained the plates. Smith convinced Harris that he had the plates, and that the angel had told him to "quit the company of the money-diggers". Convinced, Harris immediately gave Smith $50 (equivalent to $1,200 in 2021), and committed to sponsor the translation of the plates. Around 1820 Smith is said to have experienced a theophany, now known as his First Vision among adherents. Around this time he, along with other male members of his family, was hired to assist in searching for buried treasure. In 1823, Smith said an angel directed him to a nearby hill where he said was buried a book of golden plates containing a Christian history of ancient American civilizations.

Joseph Smith, Jr.'s 1842 Account of Angel Moroni's Visit

The Smith family first built a log home, then in 1822, under the supervision of Joseph Smith's oldest brother Alvin, they began building a larger frame house. Alvin died in November 1823, possibly as a result of being given calomel for "bilious fever", and the house remained uncompleted for a year. By this time Joseph Smith Sr. may have partially abdicated family leadership to Alvin, and in 1825, the Smiths were unable to make their mortgage payments.

Once home in Palmyra, he then walked to Cumorah and said he removed the plates from their hiding place, and walked back home with the plates wrapped in a linen frock under his arm, suffering a dislocated thumb as he fended off attackers.

RELIGIOUS CLIMATE

When their creditor foreclosed, the family persuaded a local Quaker, Lemuel Durfee, to buy the farm and rent it to them. Nevertheless, in 1829, the Smiths and five of their children moved back into the log house, with Hyrum Smith and his wife. Harris had apparently been a close confidant of the Smith family since at least 1826, and he may have heard about Smith's attempts to obtain the plates from the angel even earlier from Smith Sr. When Lucy visited Harris, he had heard about Smith's report to have found golden plates through the grapevine in Palmyra, and was interested in finding out more.

When Martin did not return to Harmony, Pennsylvania, where Joseph and Emma lived at the time, Joseph traveled to Palmyra to inquire the reason for Martin Harris’ delayed return. Word was sent to the Harris home that Joseph needed to speak with Martin immediately. Hours passed before Martin entered the Smith home, where he sat at the kitchen table with his head in his hands avoiding eye contact with Joseph. ” When Martin informed Joseph that he had lost the manuscript, Lucy Mack Smith said that Joseph clinched his hands together and exclaimed, “All is lost, is lost! It is I who tempted the wrath of God by asking him for that which I had no right to ask, as I was differently instructed by the angel.” And he wept and groaned, walking the floor continually.

The Bible Or The Book Of Mormon?

The first convoy to arrive at the place that will become Winter Quarters divides the camp into wards, plants crops and builds log cabins. By 1844, the dynamic settlement's population has grown to 12,000, rivaling the size of Chicago. Smith has himself appointed chief justice of the city court and lieutenant general of a Nauvoo militia, merging church and state in a thriving theocracy, where Mormons wield political and military might. In the summer of 1833, an angry mob storms the newspaper's offices, destroys the press, and tars and feathers two Mormon leaders. The tensions and skirmishes escalate, forcing the Missouri Mormons to relocate several times over the next few years.

The comfortable, but meager financial state of the Smiths is reflected in the simplicity of this room. A replica of Hyrum’s chest used to secure the Book of Mormon plates is placed on the dresser on the northern wall. Soon after Joseph brought the plates to the Smith home, the hearth stones of the fireplace were removed, the plates were safely situated beneath them, and then the hearth was carefully replaced to avoid suspicion. Founder of a uniquely American religion, Joseph Smith was a poor farm boy who became a charismatic prophet, much criticized polygamist, town and temple builder, and finally a martyr for the faith he had established. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is one of America's fastest growing religions.

Early life of Joseph Smith

Smith usually practiced crystal gazing by putting a stone at the bottom of a white stovepipe hat, putting his face over the hat to block the light, then divining information from the stone. Smith and his father achieved "something of a mysterious local reputation in the profession—mysterious because there is no record that they ever found anything despite the readiness of some local residents to pay for their efforts." Smith said he had become concerned about religion "at about the age of twelve years," although later he seems to have wondered whether "a Supreme being did exist." Smith apparently attended the Presbyterian Sunday school as a child, and later as an adolescent, he displayed interest in Methodism. One of Smith's acquaintances said that Smith had caught "a spark of Methodism" at camp meetings "away down in the woods, on the Vienna road." He even reportedly spoke during some of these meetings, and the acquaintance described Smith as a "very passable exhorter." The artists visited Palmyra in December 2019 to experience the sites and capture details they wanted to reflect in the paintings. In order to begin to understand and properly appreciate Joseph Smith’s First Vision, it is advisable to first explore some of its background and underlying themes.

Smith’s new “church” was extremely controversial and contained a blend of the Christian doctrines and folk magic with which he grew up. He attempted to convert some of the local people, but was driven out of various towns for “corrupting public morals” with his practices of divination and polygamy . The polygamy charge is uncertain, as both Smith and his wife Emma denied any polygamous relationships, but some records show that Smith had married four other women.
